Indian Recipe: Sambar Masala

Sambar Masala is a special blend of Indian spices for making sambar, a lentil and vegetable soup/dal very popular in Southern India.
Ingredients for Sambar Masala:
- 1 tsp Methi (Fenugreek)
- 2 tbsp Chana Daal seeds
- 4 tbsp Coriander Seeds
- 4-5 Red Chillies
- 1 tsp Asafoetida(optional)
- 3 tbsp Coconut (grated)
- 3 tbsp Oil
Directions for making Sambar Masala:
- Roast methi, chana daal, and asafoetida.
- Add chillies when daal starts getting red.
- If using dry coconut, soak it in a little water and blend the daal mixture and coconut until the paste is fine.
- Keep aside.
